Linen and Silk what a combination for Global warming
Indian Fashion Designers are experimenting with traditional linens and silk as a unique combination to combat the ever increasing heat and to create a fashion statement.
With the affects of Global Warming and increasing temperatures around the globe we may all be faced to having to deal with the heat. The combination of age old neutral coloured Linen and exotic silk. It seems that bright colours are being put into second place in favour of more gentle pastel shades. One of the designers confirms this trend Ritu Kumar was quoted as saying "People are now buying clothes which can provide them with comfort in this tremendous heat," "Across countries, the trend is the same. Global warming is making people fall back on light, flowing clothes."
Linen used to be used by the Egyptian mummifications of wrapping the pharaohs in linen prior to burial and with a history going back thousands of years as a fabric used for clothing and daily use. Linen was shunned by customers who didn't like the affect the material had when crushed as it detracted from the clothes but now this affect is becoming more popular and especially when combined with gently flowing silk you have a combination like no other. Linen has recently become a popular material for high end garments and has been used for linen trousers, dresses, skirts. It is extremely popular for its heat cooling properties. Designers also feel that Linen has a distinctive advantage in terms of printing and dyeing.
